* ob-eval.el (org-babel-eval): Improve documentation and rename local
variables to be consistent with `org-babel--shell-command-on-region'
* (org-babel--shell-command-on-region): Remove START and END as
parameters.
* (org-babel--shell-command-on-region): Refactored out parts of
function to `org-babel--write-temp-buffer-input-file' and `org-babel--get-shell-file-name'.
This removes two parameters from
`org-babel--shell-command-on-region'. It appears that START and END
were parameters only because shell-command-on-region has them. This
function is only called by org-babel-eval so it looks safe to remove
those parameters, since they are always (point-min) and (point-max)
and are never changed. Given the way the function works and that it
is, it is unlikely that any user code relies on it.
Add changes from Emacs repo that should have been backported with
bb77dd2.

* lisp/ob-eval.el (org-babel-eval): Switch to compilation mode only if
the current mode is not already (a derived mode of)
compilation-mode. Remove the read-only state from the buffer
directly without using `read-only-mode'.
* lisp/ob-eval.el, lisp/ob.el, lisp/org-macro.el, lisp/org-mhe.el:
Require org-macs and org-compat as necessary.
* lisp/ob-tangle.el: Declare function `org-store-link' and
`org-open-link-from-string'.
* lisp/org-compat.el: Extend eval-and-compile clause and add advices
for functions that have different parameter lists in XEmacs. Add
variable definitions that XEmacs lacks .
* lisp/org-macs.el (declare-function): Define macro to use autoload
instead for XEmacs.
* lisp/ox-html.el, lisp/ox-odt.el: XEmacs does not have table.el, so
use 'noerror on the require form.
* lisp/ox-texinfo.el (org-texinfo-table-column-widths): Fix spliced
argument list that XEmacs complains about by adding parenthesis.
This fixes all compilation failures on XEmacs and warnings related to
Org that indicate that XEmacs has compiled things wrongly (for
instance it might have interpreted a function as a variable symbol).
There are still many warnings that probably indicate serious problems.
* lisp/ob-eval.el (org-babel-eval): Use simplified version of
`org-babel--shell-command-on-region´, we are the only caller of this
function.
* lisp/ob-eval.el (org-babel--shell-command-on-region): Replace
`org-babel-shell-command-on-region´ with a much more simplified
internal version, remove superfluous DOCSTRING and interactive
clause, strip out all conditionals which were never used. Prevent
deletion of temporary input file to aid debugging when the symbol
`org-babel--debug-input´ is bound and has non-nil value.
* ob.el (org-babel-temp-file): Fix setting of
`temporary-file-directory' on remote hosts.
* ob-eval.el (org-babel-shell-command-on-region): Use
`process-file' instead of `call-process-region'. The latter one
does not work on remote hosts.
Also remove blank lines before the ";;; org*el ends here" declarations.
Having a "Version" header forced us to update every file when releasing a
new version of Org; it also forced us to update every file when merging Org
with Emacs trunk, thus cluttering the diffs between the previously merged
version and the new one with useless information.

In addition to passing the file path through `expand-file-name',
tramp-style remote file names are converted to conventional (local)
file paths. The reason is that, if a tramp file name was in use in
emacs, then the shell command will be executing on the remote machine
in question. Further, by default the file name is passed through
`shell-quote-argument'.
