* lisp/org-macs.el (org-with-limited-levels): some functions, like
`org-back-to-heading', being deeply based on outline-mode, still
refer to `outline-regexp' instead of `org-outline-regexp'.
This commit introduce `org-loop-over-siblings-within-active-region-p'
as a new defcustom that you can turn on (`non-nil') to allow commands
to loop over siblings in the active region.
The list of commands is this:
- org-archive-subtree
- org-archive-to-archive-sibling
- org-toggle-archive-tag
- org-deadline
- org-schedule
When `org-loop-over-siblings-within-active-region-p' is `non-nil' and
you run one of the command above on a region containing several headlines,
then Org will apply the command to each headline.
This can be particularily useful for archiving several headlines, or to
add a deadline or schedule several entries.

The problem was here that the value of the property is the string
"nil", which is of course not nil.
This patches introduces a special case to interpret "nil" as nil.
* lisp/org-macs.el (org-rm-props): Add org-emphasis to the properties

(org-unfontify-region): Decompose the region as well, because we do
composition during font-lock.
(org-raise-scripts): Do nothing inside an emphasis string.

Many different people want to set many different variables in a
buffer-local way for export. This cannot be done with file variables,
because the Org buffer is not current while the exporter is running.
Lots of variables can be set with the #+OPTIONS lines, but finding
abbreviations goes only so far.
Therefore we have now a general mechanism that can be used to bind
variables during export operations.
a line like: #+BIND: variable value
will bind the variable to value. For example,
the line
>> #+OPTIONS: toc:nil
can now equivalently be written as
>> #+BIND: org-export-with-toc nil

There is now a better error message when either the latex or the
dvipng program does not exist.
Matt Lundin writes:
I'm have a *minor* issue to report. It occurs when I export
an org file with footnotes to LaTeX. Specifically, it has to
do with the combination of American style quotation marks
and footnotes.
According to many American manuals of style, quotation marks
are to be placed after a sentence ending period if the
quoted passage is at the end of the sentence. E.g.
,----
| Here is "a quote."
|
| not
|
| Here is "a quote".
`----
When I use American style quotation in conjuction with a
footnote, the exporter does not convert the closing quote
marks into a two single quotation marks (i.e., LaTeX smart
quotes).
Thus, the following source snippet:
,----
| This is a footnote "with a quote."[fn:sample] And here
| is another footnote "with a quote".[fn:another]
|
| [fn:sample] Here is the sample footnote.
|
| [fn:another] Another footnote.
`----
Becomes
,----
| This is a footnote ``with a quote."\footnote{Here is
| the sample footnote. } And here is another footnote ``with
| a quote''.\footnote{Another footnote. }
`----
Notice the double quotation mark (rather than two single
apostrophes) at the end of the first sentence. Notice also
the correct quotation mark format appears in the second
sentence, where the period comes after the quotation mark.
This commit addresses this issue by checking of text
protection is off not after the quotation mark, but before.
